Man shot to death in Gary

A man who was shot at his home Wednesday night in northwest Indiana died early Thursday.

About 6:10 p.m., officers found 29-year-old Robert Armstead lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his back, near his shoulder, in the 4400 block of Connecticut Street, according to Gary police and the Lake County (Ind.) coroner’s office. He was unresponsive but breathing.

Armstead, who lived on that block, was taken to Methodist Hospital in Gary where he died about 1 a.m. Thursday during surgery, authorities said. His death was ruled a homicide.
