A man was killed Monday night in a shooting in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

About 10:30 p.m., 21-year-old D’Montre Smith was standing in the 10200 block of South May when a dark-colored sedan drove by and someone inside opened fire, striking him in the chest, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was later found lying in a gangway.

Smith, who lived in the same block where he was shot, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
