The Cubs recalled outfielder Junior Lake to the club Monday and optioned struggling reliever Brian Schlitter to Triple-A Iowa.

Lake, who will be available for Monday night’s game against the Pirates, has played parts of the last two seasons with the Cubs. He is a career .243 hitter with 26 doubles, 15 home runs and 41 RBIs in 172 games.

The 25-year-old was hitting .289 with two doubles and eight RBIs in 13 games with Iowa this season. He hit .319 with one homer and nine RBIs in 22 Cactus League games this season.

Schlitter had allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings this season, having surrendered at least one run in four of his seven appearances.

With the move, the Cubs now have 12 pitchers and 13 hitters on their active roster.
