A woman hit and killed by a car exiting the Dan Ryan Expressway late Sunday in the South Side Chatham neighborhood remains unidentified.

Just before 10 p.m., the woman – thought to be in her 20s – was in the crosswalk at 87th Street and Lafayette when a Volkswagen Passat speeding southbound off the expressway struck her, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality Monday, and said the woman remains unidentified.

The 23-year-old man behind the wheel and the 24-year-old woman in the passenger seat of the Passat were taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where their conditions stabilized, police said.

Traffic citations were pending early Monday as the police Major Accidents Investigations Unit handles the case.
