Softball is similar to a three-piece jigsaw puzzle in that pitching, defense and hitting all need to fit together to get a complete picture of a team’s ability.

In Waukegan’s first three games this season, one or more of the pieces were missing. But in Tuesday’s home opener against Highland Park, first-year head coach Amy Ramsey found whatever had been lost, and the result was a 15-5 win over Highland Park in a game stopped in the bottom of the sixth by the mercy rule.
