Michael M. Nieves | Woodstock police

A 31-year-old northwest suburban man set up a video camera inside a bathroom to illegally tape a teenage girl, according to police who arrested him Thursday.

Michael M. Nieves of the 500 block of Birch Street in Woodstock was charged with one count of unlawful videotaping, a Class 3 felony, after being arrested at his workplace in Spring Grove on Thursday, according to Woodstock police.

About 11 a.m. Thursday, the victim, a girl under the age of 17, called police after finding the camera in the bathroom, police said.

Police quickly identified Nieves as a suspect, questioned and arrested him.

Nieves was being held at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility and was scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday.

To protect the victim’s identity, police did not release the address of the incident or explain how the girl knew Nieves.
