A driver received two traffic tickets after a minivan struck two women early Sunday in the South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood, critically injuring both.
The minivan was heading southbound in the 8900 block of South Stony Island about 2:40 a.m. when it struck the women as they crossed the street, police said.
Both women, ages 44 and 49, were taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
An investigation found the pedestrians were crossing against the traffic signal and the minivan had a green light, police said.
The driver, a 36-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to pedestrians in the roadway, police said.
