A ramp from the Kennedy Expressway to the Eisenhower Expressway will be closed this weekend as crews continue work on the Jane Byrne Interchange downtown.

The ramp from the southbound Kennedy (Interstate 90/94) to the westbound Eisenhower (Interstate 290) will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

It will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, IDOT said. During that time, crews will be working on a water main near the Green Street corridor.

A detour will direct traffic to the Dan Ryan Expressway, where motorists can exit at 18th Street, turn left on Ruble Street and re-enter the northbound Dan Ryan. From there, drivers can exit to the westbound Eisenhower.

The work is part of the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange project, which lasts until summer 2018. The $475 million project is aimed at reducing congestion on the interchange by half, according to IDOT.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time.
