Man charged after gun goes off in Megabus bathroom

A man charged with accidentally discharging his weapon while using the bathroom inside a Megabus traveling on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway has been held on a $225,000 bond.

Jacques L. Anderson, 27, is facing several charges, including armed violence, escape, reckless discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property, according to a statement from Illinois Sate Police.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and aggravated battery to a police officer, the statement said.

Anderson was arrested late Tuesday, after he got into an argument with the driver while the bus was traveling near northwest suburban Des Plaines, State Police said.

About 11 p.m., Anderson’s weapon went off, State Police said previously. He asked the driver if he could get off the bus, but the driver declined and the man went back to get his belongings from the back of the bus, authorities said.

After securing his belongings he walked back toward the driver and stumbled, causing his pistol to fall out of his waistband, police said. A passenger saw the gun and quickly subdued the man.

The passenger held him until troopers arrived at a parking lot off the Des Plaines Oasis on I-90, police said. No one was injured, police said.

Anderson, of Chicago, is being held on a $225,000 bond, authorities said. He will next appear in court June 6.
