A bus went off the side of a bridge early Sunday near the Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Ind., leaving the driver unable to talk.

The bus, heading northbound through the Buffington Harbor Complex, went off the side of a bridge near the casino at 1 Buffington Harbor Dr., Gary police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Decanter said.

It was unknown why the driver — the only person aboard the bus — drove off of the bridge, which is under construction, Decanter said.

It took about an hour to extract the driver, described only as a male. He has not been able to communicate, and his condition remains unknown at Northlake campus of Methodist Hospital in Gary, Decanter said.
