More than $27K raised for dogs rescued from Glencoe home

More than $27,000 has been raised online for 35 dogs rescued from a hoarder’s home in north suburban Glencoe last week.

Graziela Saade Kaufman of Glencoe created the GoFundMe account to raise funds for the dogs’ health bills and care. In four days, the account has raised over $27,000.

“Your donation gets these dogs one step closer to being able to feel something they have never felt before, love,” the GoFundMe page reads.

On May 13, officers responding to a well-being check at a home in the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue in Glencoe found 35 dogs, well in excess of the maximum allowed under city law, according to Glencoe police.

The conditions in the home prompted officers to work with the town’s health inspector, building and zoning officials, and animal control staff from north suburban Northbrook.

Jeanne Harper, of the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue in Glencoe, was charged with three counts related to her duties as the dogs’ owner. Three additional counts were filed for “cruel treatment to companion animals,” the Glencoe Department of Public Safety said in a statement. All the charges are misdemeanors.

Harper, whose age wasn’t released, voluntarily gave up ownership of the dogs to an adoption center, the department said.

The dogs were placed at two local veterinary clinics for examination and evaluation. “Some” were still being treated as of Monday, the department said.
