A northwest Indiana woman was airlifted to a hospital after her car was pinned underneath a semi trailer following a crash Monday night on the Borman Expressway.
The crash happened on I-80/94 near the Lake Station, Ind., exit at 11:13 p.m., according to Indiana State Police.
A 25-year-old Portage woman was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound in the middle lane behind a semi truck, which was following another semi, police said.
A fourth semi was speeding in the right lane when the driver “made an unsafe lane movement” and pulled into the center lane, striking the rear of the Cobalt, police said.
The Cobalt was shoved underneath the trailer of the semi it had been following, pinning the driver in her vehicle, police said.
The striking semi kept going, sideswiping the semi the car was pinned underneath and rear-ending another semi before stopping, police said.
The woman was extricated from her car and airlifted to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she is listed in serious condition, police said. None of the semi drivers was injured.
No citations had been issued as of Tuesday morning as the investigation continues.
