A man accidentally shot his friend in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side Saturday night.

He was playing with a handgun about 10 p.m. inside a home in the 6200 block of South Wood when it went off and struck a 20-year-old man in the left hip, police said.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Charges were pending against the accidental shooter Saturday night.

The shooting happened about 15 minutes before gunfire erupted about two blocks south.
