Two men were shot and critically injured early Saturday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The men, both 19, were sitting in a car about 4:15 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Winchester when someone on a bike rode up and asked them if they were gang members before opening fire, police said.

The driver was shot in the left leg and right hip, and the passenger in the chest and arms, police said.

The man behind the wheel took them to a gas station a quarter-mile southwest in the 2000 block of West Garfield, where emergency crews were called.They were both taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Authorities do not know the cause of the fire, which was put down in about 30 minutes.
