A man and woman were found dead early Friday in an apparent murder-suicide in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

A family member found 27-year-old Erica D. Blackman and a 42-year-old man dead with gunshot wounds about 12:45 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Princeton, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Saturday found that Blackman, who lived in the same block, died from a shotgun wound to the left arm, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Police said the man was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner’s office confirmed his death Saturday afternoon but withheld his name pending notification of his family.

Area South detectives are investigating the incident as a domestic-related murder-suicide, a police source said.
