A northwest suburban teenager was charged with burglarizing a vehicle early Tuesday in Elgin.

Officers received a call just after 3 a.m. from a concerned citizen about suspicious people going through backyards in the 900 block of Larkin Avenue, police said.

They responded to the scene and found a vehicle that appeared to have been recently entered. A few minutes later, two suspects matching the descriptions were spotted by officers, but they ran away.

One of the suspects, 18-year-old Brett Ledbetter, was caught by the officers, police said. He was in possession of several items that were taken from the vehicle, and also had about two grams of cannabis.

Ledbetter, of the 600 block of Orange Street in Elgin, was charged with burglary to motor vehicle, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to vehicle, resisting a police officer and possession of cannabis.

Bond was set at $65,000 for Ledbetter in court Wednesday.
