9 injured in Chicago shootings since Tuesday afternoon

Nine people have been injured — one of them critically — in shootings across Chicago since Tuesday afternoon.

The most recent shooting happened early Wednesday in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side.

About 1:20 a.m., a 26-year-old man was driving southbound in the 5900 block of North Winthrop when a gunman opened fire from the sidewalk, according to Chicago Police.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and hand and drove himself to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Late Tuesday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

He was on a sidewalk about 11:10 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Wabash when two people walked up and one of them shot him in the leg. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the lower left leg and his condition stabilized, police said.

Less than an hour earlier, an 18-year-old man was hurt in a Kenwood neighborhood shooting.

About 10:30 p.m., he got into an argument over money with another person who then opened fire. A bullet grazed his left thigh and he was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.

A Back of Yards neighborhood shooting left a 30-year-old man wounded about 9 p.m.

The man was in the 5000 block of South Marshfield when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg, and his condition stabilized.

A half-hour earlier, a 58-year-old woman was shot while riding in a vehicle in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The car was in the 3600 block of West 85th Place at 8:35 p.m. when someone in a nearby SUV shot her in the neck and cheek. She was taken to Christ Medical Center, where her condition had stabilized, police said.

About the same time, a teenage boy was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The 17-year-old was standing on the sidewalk at 8:30 p.m. with two other people in the 5500 block of West Fulton when someone fired at them from an alley, police said. He was shot in the lower left leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

A pair of Rogers Park neighborhood shootings within an hour of each other Tuesday evening left two men wounded on the North Side.

About 5 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the right hand and hip in the 1600 block of West Juneway, and at 6 p.m. a 23-year-old man was shot in the left arm in an unrelated drive-by attack in the 1300 block of West Greenleaf, police said.

Both men were taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where police said their conditions had stabilized.

Tuesday’s first shooting happened about 2 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.

A 44-year-old man’s leg was grazed by a bullet in the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive, police said. He declined medical treatment.
