A man was shot while riding in a vehicle early Thursday on the Bishop Ford Freeway on the South Side after getting into an argument downtown.

The shooting happened on the Stony Island ramp of the Bishop Ford at 103rd Street about 4:50 a.m., according to Illinois State Police.

Three people had been involved in an argument with at least one other person somewhere downtown, and that person followed them in a vehicle down the expressway to the ramp, where the suspect began firing at their vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.

Three people were inside the vehicle — a 26-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, and a 20-year-old woman — and they drove to a nearby police station.

The 26-year-old man was shot and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said.

The suspect drove off and exited the expressway, police said.

The outbound lanes of I-94 were closed for several hours after the shooting for the investigation, but had reopened by 9 a.m.

No one was in custody as of late Thursday morning.
