The Northern Illinois football program wants a new field design and the athletic program is allowing the fans to decide which field design will be used in the upcoming season.

Northern Illinois Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier said the field design should be up to the fans because they’re the ones watching and attending the games.

The new FieldTurf surface is an improvement necessary for our football program, which uses the surface nearly every day, Frazier said. In addition, fans who attend the games in person, and those who watch on television will see an updated design which is critical to our branding efforts as we continue to promote NIU both regionally and nationally.

The first field design has the outline of the Huskie in the middle of the field with black endzones.

The third design is taking a shot at the University of Illinois who use the state shape as its helmet logo. And Illinois considers itself as the state university. Northern Illinois is the best football program in the state of Illinois, so why not?

The fifth and sixth design are similar, but the fifth design shows the impression of corn crops in the lower-third on the field.

The second field design has already been eliminated, and there are five remaining. Each weekday, one field design will be eliminated.
