One man was shot dead and another wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

They were standing on the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South East End Avenue at 12:27 a.m. when a gunman fired shots, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Gaines said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Another man, whose age was not immediately available, was shot in the buttocks and took himself to Jackson Park, where his condition was stabilized.
