Man shot in Austin

A 20-year-old man was wounded in a shooting early Tuesday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The man was sitting on a porch with a group of people about 12:35 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Lotus when a light-colored car drove up and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The man was shot in the foot and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
