A brief tornado touched down Tuesday afternoon in southwest suburban Summit, according to the National Weather Service.

The O’Hare Terminal Doppler radar confirms the damage that occurred in Summit was the result of a very brief tornado, according to the weather service.

The EF-0 tornado touched down for one minute at 1:08 p.m. and stayed on the aground for .4 miles in a path that was about 50 yards wide, according to the weather service. An EF-0 is a weak tornado with sustained winds between 65-85 mph.

The majority of the damage was to trees, with several large branches knocked down and a couple of trees snapped, according to the weather service. There was also some minor roof damage and a wooden fence was partially downed.

No injuries were reported.
