SHARE 60 food vendors, including 19 newcomers, set for 35th Taste of Chicago

The 35th Taste of Chicago will feature 60 food establishments, including 19 newcomers, when the annual feeding frenzy by the lake arrives July 8-12 in Grant Park. The announcement was made today by the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Illinois Restaurant Association.

“As our culinary reputation has grown on the national stage, the Taste of Chicago continues to reflect the vibrant and diverse restaurant community of Chicago with new, exciting culinary experiences along with long-time favorites,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The newbie lineup will include six five-day restaurants, five new food trucks and eight new pop-up participants who will be on site for one or two days only. The new restaurants and food trucks are: Bruges Brothers, Burger Bar Chicago, The Crave Bar, Dia De Los Tamales, Dinky Donuts, Inc., DönerMen, Emerald Isle, Farmer’s Fridge, Haire’s Gulf Shrimp, Jack’s Fork in the Road, La Bomba Restaurant, La Cocinita, La Mexicana, Luke’s Lobster, Miller’s Pub, Old Crow Smokehouse, Puffs of Doom, Sono Wood Fired and Yum Dum.

In addition, the hugely popular “Celebrity Chef du Jour” program will be back featuring five local chefs offering a unique 3-course dining experience in an air-conditioned dining pavilion for $45 (limit four tickets per person). This year’s chef roster includes: Tanya Baker (The Boarding House), Thomas Lents (Sixteen), Giuseppe Tentori (GT Fish & Oyster) Jimmy Bannos Jr. (The Purple Pig) and Phillip Foss (EL Ideas). Tickets for the dining experience must be purchased in advance; they go on sale at 10 a.m. May 29 at tasteofchicago.us.

Admission to the Taste of Chicago is free; tickets for food and beverages can be purchased in strips of 12 tickets for $8.50. All vendors will offer their signature items, as well as the smaller “Taste Of” portions priced at $2.50 or less. Lighter, healthier choice items will also be available from select vendors. Taste hours will be: 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Wednesday–Friday, and 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
