A west suburban man died Tuesday night after being shot, along with another man, outside his Aurora home last weekend.

Darnell K. Eaton, 56, walked out his back door with another man in the 1300 block of New York Street in Aurora just after 2 a.m. Sunday when someone in his backyard started shooting, according to Aurora police.

Eaton and the other man ran back inside the house, and a Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s was seen running northbound from the scene, a statement from police said. He got into a light-colored pickup or SUV that was parked on Calhoun Street and drove away northbound.

Eaton was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead at 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The other man, 58, is being treated for gunshot wounds at an Aurora hospital, police said.

Investigators do not think Eaton or the other victim were the intended targets, police said. No motive has been established.
