A 17-year-old boy shot to death Monday night in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side has been identified.

Ronnie Shaw Jr. was walking in the 4900 block of West Erie about 7:50 p.m. when a male suspect confronted him and pulled a gun, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Shaw tried to run away as the suspect began firing, but was struck in the back and leg, police said.

Officers nearby heard the shots and found him lying in the middle of the street with numerous gunshot wounds, police said.

Shaw, of the 4900 block of West Ferdinand, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police said the victim was affiliated with a gang and the shooting may be gang-related.
