A man originally charged with robbing a Lake View woman in her apartment building has now been charged with five other armed robberies.

Jaleel Johnson, 19, was charged last week with felony robbery, according to Chicago Police.

Since then, he has been identified as a suspect in five other robberies, and charged with four counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery, police said Thursday.

About 10 p.m. on May 18, Johnson followed a 21-year-old woman into the vestibule of her apartment building in the 3100 block of North Southport about 10 p.m., police said.

He grabbed her, pushed her to the ground and took her purse before running off, police said. Three men witnessed the robbery and chased Johnson until they caught him a short distance away.

The victim identified Johnson as the robber, police said. She declined medical attention, and her purse was recovered.

Police said the other five robberies all happened between March 7 and May 16 on the North Side, but did not provide additional details.

Johnson, of the 6900 block of South Artesian, was ordered held on a $250,000 bond for the initial robbery charge, according to police and the Cook County sheriff’s office. He was scheduled to appear in bond court again Thursday on the new charges.
