It was a picture-perfect May for big bass and young people around Chicago waters.

Kyle Miller nominated his girlfriend Miranda Lonzo for her biggest largemouth bass. The Chicago woman caught it fishing a Texas-rigged brush hog on Long Lake in Lake County.

Young Ava Banas, (in the photo to the right) in her Sox cap, caught her first bass at a Cook County pond.

Jack Wirtz, 14, a freshman at Marist, landed his biggest bass on May 17 while he was fishing live minnows at Monee Reservoir in Will County.

“We let him back into water hoping that next time he’s even bigger,’’ his uncle Mitch of Mount Greenwood emailed.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and good stories around Chicago fishing, appears Wednesdays on the Sun-Times outdoors page.
