Charges were announced early Friday against a man who allegedly fired shots outside a Southwest Side McKinley Park home, injuring a woman sitting in the living room.

Manuel Martinez, 33, was charged with one felony count each of aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm and aggravated fleeing from police, a statement from Chicago Police said. He was also cited for driving without a license and insurance, and driving with a broken headlight.

About 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 3700 block of South Wolcott saw a vehicle speeding away from the area and a pursuit ensued, police said.

Martinez had allegedly fired shots in the 3600 block of South Honore, police said. A 61-year-old woman sitting inside the living room of a home in that block was shot in the neck. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

Police said Martinez’s vehicle then sped into the outbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and Chicago Police chased it until the vehicle crashed at the I-294 northbound ramp near Hodgkins, police said. Martinez was later arrested.

Martinez, of the 2000 block of West 35th Street, is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
