Police say teens are going door-to-door in north suburban Evanston and asking for donations for a basketball tournament that doesn’t exist.
The youth are saying they are collecting donations for a memorial basketball tournament that would honor an Evanston Township High School student who was shot and killed in 2014, according to a statement from Evanston police.
Individuals who are collecting donations have a laminated photo of the slain teen and information about where the event will be held.
Residents who encounter suspicious requests for donations are being asked to contact Evanston police at (847) 866-5000.
