Tom Turek of Bridgeview sent this photo and observation on monk parakeets.
He emailed:
They usually make their nests in big evergreens, as provides more cover for them. They seem to be getting more blatant, have not seen many nests in oak trees in the past. They chatter very loud as mating season is upon them, I would guess. End of report.
One of the best articles on the subject I have read over the years was in Chicago Wilderness in 2003. Click here for it.
Wild of the Week, a celebration of wildlife around Chicago outdoors, runs on the Sun-Times outdoors page on Sundays when apt.
