Bishop Ford reopens after suicidal man threatens to jump

All lanes of the Bishop Ford Expressway were reopened Tuesday afternoon after a suicidal man threatened to jump from an overpass sign.

The man, who police said may have been armed, climbed a freestanding sign over Interstate 94 near 147th Street about 1:20 p.m. and was threatening to jump, according to Illinois State Police.

As of 3:15 p.m., authorities had talked the man down off the sign, and he was taken to Ingalls Hospital for care, police said.

All lanes are open in both directions.
