New Ravenswood Metra station is halfway there

A new Metra station will open for business Sunday on the outbound side of the Ravenswood stop along the Union Pacific North Line.

The previous station amounted to little more than a bus shelter. Metra officials showed off the new station Wednesday.

That new facility, at 4800 N. Ravenswood Ave., will offer a longer covered platform and heated shelter, Metra spokesman Mike Gillis said.

A mirror image of the new station is planned for the inbound side of the tracks, with construction to begin next year, Gillis said.

The work was overdue considering the amount of riders that frequent the stop.

“It’s now the fourth-busiest in our system outside the downtown station,” he said.
