A recovering alcoholic will serve as the celebrity bartender before Friday’s White Sox game.

John Daly, the PGA golfer known for his boisterous personality and public battle with alcoholism, will serve drinks at the ChiSox Bar & Grill at 6 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field.

Daly will be serving John Daly cocktails – lemonade, iced tea and vodka – to fans for $7 before the White Sox series opener against the Reds. He’ll also throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Daly wrote in his autobiography that he drank a fifth of Jack Daniel’s every day early in his professional career.

He was held in a North Carolina jail overnight in 2008 after passing out outside of a Hooters restaurant. He was not arrested, but his mugshot was released by Winston-Salem police. Daly has said he’s been sober ever since.

Daly also had problems with gambling, his weight and he has been divorced four times.

The veteran golfer has remained a fan favorite, though, thanks to his outgoing personality, his loud choice of clothing and the up-and-down nature of his career. Last year he told The Guardian that he smokes 40 cigarettes and drinks 10-12 cans of Diet Coke per day.

The news of his visit to The Cell prompted some jabs and sarcasm on social media. Some questioned the decision to have Daly serve liquor.
