The Fire might have a new sponsor next season.
The adidas MLS Spring 2016 catalog has appeared online and shows the Fire’s jerseys without the Quaker logo and wordmark. A source familiar with the situation confirmed the extension Quaker Oats and the Fire agreed to before this season will be up at the end of the year. That was speculated when the extension was reported in January.
The Fire and Quaker have been together since 2012 and the Chicago-based company has a strong presence around the club beyond the front of the team’s shirts. There’s the Quaker Corner and additional signage at Toyota Park, along with other initiatives. Quaker is also visible on the team website, and during games there are messages over the public address system that the Fire are “fueled by Quaker.”
Terms of the extension weren’t disclosed.Quaker and the Fire originally joined together in 2012 on a three-year deal that was reportedly worth around $8 million to the club. Shirt sponsorships are one of an MLS team’s most important revenue sources, and also keep them in line with the rest of world soccer.
Also according to the catalog, the Fire’s white secondary shirt and black third will return next year. The current primary will be replaced at the end of its two-year cycle.
