A man struck a north suburban DMV building with his vehicle while attempting to get his license renewed on Wednesday.

The 87-year-old man drove to the facility, 405 Lake Cook Road, “about lunchtime,” Illinois Secretary of State spokesman Dave Druker said. It appears he may have accidentally pressed on the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to strike a pillar, Druker said.

Deerfield police said no one was injured, and there was no structural damage besides “some scrapes.”

The office wasn’t closed or evacuated, but crews were on scene after the accident to do repairs, Druker said.

Police could not immediately say whether the man was cited.

“Despite some rumors, he did not pass the test,” Druker said.
