ST. JOSEPH — Authorities searching for a missing 6-month-old baby in rural eastern Illinois say they’ve found her in good health in a soybean field.

Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office found the baby girl at 1:47 a.m. Friday in a soybean field about 3 miles northeast of St. Joseph. The small town is about 10 miles east of Champaign.

According to The News-Gazette in Champaign, deputies started looking for the baby Thursday after her mother reported that the child’s 23-year-old father drove away with the baby in her car after an argument.

Deputies searched the field after someone spotted the car.

The father has been arrested but has not yet been formally charged. He is expected to appear in court late Friday.
