A man accidentally shot himself Saturday afternoon in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.

About 5 p.m., the 18-year-old was shot in the leg in the 1500 block of South Hamlin, police said.

A friend took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member and that the gunshot wound is self-inflicted.
