A fight in Portage Park early Saturday led to a shooting that left one man wounded, police said.

The 27-year-old was shot in the chest at 12:10 a.m. in the 4000 block of North Laporte after he and his friends got into a fight with another group of males, police said.

After he was shot, he ran to tell officers, who were in the area because of an event at a nearby theater, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized. Police initially said he was in critical condition.
