A 29-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday night in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Lawrence M. Cox was talking with someone inside a vehicle in the 3400 block of West Madison about 10:05 p.m. when a gunman approached and opened fire, striking him in the side of his abdomen, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Cox, of the 3800 block of West Van Buren, was driven by his friend to Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, authorities said. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m., authorities said.

Cox was a documented gang member, according to police.
