A 23-year-old man was killed and a 20-year-old woman critically injured in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night in unincorporated Lake County.

Nikolas D. Marcopoulos was driving a 2009 Buell motorcycle northbound on Wilson Road with a passenger when he began to pass a 2009 Toyota in a no-passing zone, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

The Toyota turned left toward Wooster Lake Avenue in unincorporated Ingleside and struck the motorcycle, a statement from police said.

Marcopoulos, of the 34000 block of Oden Avenue in Ingleside, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

His passenger, a 20-year-old McHenry woman, was ejected from the motorcycle, and was flown to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old Round Lake man, was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

The sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.
