A 27-year-old man was struck and killed by a semi truck after he ran into oncoming traffic on the Tri-State Tollway Friday night in southwest suburban Alsip.

Yousef Khatif was on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes on I-294 at about 6:30 p.m. when he ran into traffic and in front of a 2007 Peterbilt semi truck, Illinois State Police said.

The crash happened about a mile away from the 127th-Cicero exit.

Khatif, of Chicago Ridge, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. An autopsy on Saturday ruled his death a suicide.
