SHARE Police warn of East Village, Near West Side, Lower West Side robberies

Three robberies were reported in the East Village, Near West Side and Lower West Side neighborhoods in recent weeks, prompting police to issue a community alert.

According to police, the robberies occurred about 11:30 p.m. on June 3 in the 1000 block of North Paulina; about 8:30 p.m. on June 4 in the 200 block of North Ashland; and about 4:15 p.m. on June 14 in the 2500 block of South Ashland.

In each case, a black man between 30 and 35 years old grabbed the victim’s purse or backpack before running off, police said. He is estimated to weigh about 180 pounds.
