A 27-year-old man was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side late Sunday.

He was outside about 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand when he thought he heard fireworks but realized he had been shot in the shoulder, police said.

The victim, who has documented gang ties, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
