Ozzie Guillen to attend White Sox World Series reunion

The White Sox officially announced Wednesday that Ozzie Guillen will attend the ten-year World Series reunion at U.S. Cellular Field from July 17-19.

The former White Sox manager’s relationship with the Sox has been on the mend since his firing in 2011. He didn’t attend SoxFest this year but said then that he planned to attend the 2005 World Series reunion.

“Things aren’t great but it’s a lot better and if I go in July it’s because I think the players and the fans deserve everybody there,’’ Guillen said this winter. “I don’t have anything against the White Sox, I never did. But if it happens, it happens, that’s part of the game. But to say I hate them? Have we had disagreements? Yes, but it’s not something I was bitter about.

“Are things getting better? Yes. Is it great? No. But I hope it gets great, yes. Time will see how it’s going to go.”

Also added to the reunion roster Wednesday was pitcher Orlando Hernandez, who is perhaps best remembered for his role in relief in Game 3 of the ALDS against Boston. He came on with the bases loaded and nobody out and retired the next three batters without allowing a run.

Among the other players scheduled to appear during the reunion weekend are Paul Konerko, Jon Garland, Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede and Geoff Blum. Full details are online at whitesox.com/reunion.
