Britney Spears’ split with producer Charlie Ebersol was predicted by family members and friends — of both of them — sources from both Spears’ and Ebersol’s camps have told me.
“The real back story is that they really had come from such different backgrounds,” a friend of Spears’ told me Wednesday. “Britney tried so hard to work her way into Charlie’s circle of friends and ingratiate herself with his family, but it just wasn’t real … just not her.”
The couple had begun dating in October of last year and last were seen together publicly at the Billboard Music Awards in mid-May.
In the past week, Spears deleted all photos of Ebersol from her Instagram account, though there are still quite a few of him among her Twitter photos. Ebersol is the son of former TV sports mogul and “Saturday Night Live” co-creator Dick Ebersol. His mother is actress Susan Saint James.
“I never thought Charlie’s friends and family thought of him dating Britney as being anything more than a fun, celebrity fling thing,” said a friend of the Ebersol family.
“Now it’s over. No surprise.”
