Man, 26, killed in Gary crash

A 26-year-old man was killed in a crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 20 in northwest Indiana.

Cheron Bates was involved in a crash at U.S. 20 and Utah Street in Gary, Ind., according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

Bates, of the 6600 block of Lagoon Way in Portage, Ind., was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital Northlake in Gary at 6:17 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

A Gary police spokesman could not immediately be reached information about the crash.
