A north suburban man who is already a registered sex offender has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Nicholas Lee Hermann, 54, was charged with 10 felony counts of possession of child pornography, and one felony count of unlawful possession of weapon by a felon, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Hermann’s home in the 28000 block of North Sky Crest Drive in the Ivanhoe Estates subdivision in Mundelein on Tuesday, and seized evidence, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Multiple electronic devices containing an “extensive” amount of images of videos of children under the age of 13 were seized, according to the statement. A firearm was also found in the home.

“Based on the extensive amount of child pornography located on the seized electronic media, further investigation will be conducted to determine if additional charges will be sought,” according to the statement.

Hermann was convicted of sexual assault of a child in 2003 in Winnebago County, Wis., according to the statement.

Anyone with information about Hermann is asked to call Detective Christopher Covelli at (847) 377-4145.

Hermann is being held in the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond, according to police. He is next scheduled to appear in court July 21.
