The Cubs’ Double-A affiliate the Tennessee Smokies are sitting in second place with a 39-30 record in the Southern League.

Smokies center fielder Albert Almora Jr. was the Cubs’ sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft, and he had a decent first half of the 2015 season.

The 21-year-old is hitting .244 with two home runs and 20 RBI through 55 games, and the former first-round pick, who’s known for his defensive prowess, leads the team with three triples.

The second half of the Double-A season starts on Thursday, and Almora says he’s ready to turn the corner.

Seven of the current starters for the Cubs have come up through the Smokies, and Almora will be another once he’s ready. There’s no indication that Almora will reach the big leagues anytime soon.
