Bulls guard Jimmy Butler “hopes to take his talents elsewhere” next season, according to a new report from the LA Daily News.

Butler — who had a breakout, All-Star turn after gambling on himself by rejecting the Bulls’ extension offer last fall — is a restricted free agent this offseason. The Bulls can, and are expected to, match any offer that is made to him by another team, according to the report.

Here’s more from the Daily News:

Chicago forward Jimmy Butler hopes to take his talents elsewhere and take advantage of the new television deal after his career year coincided with Tom Thibodeau’s firing and Derrick Rose’s chemistry issues. Although Butler wants to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, according to a league source familiar with his thinking, the Bulls are expected to match any offer for the restricted free agent.

Butler and Thibodeau had a strong relationship, or at least it would seem that way after the two were seen dining together at Gibson’s this weekend. And the chemistry issues between Butler and Derrick Rose are very real.

Butler averaged 20 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists during the 2014-15 season, all of which marked career highs.

Four days ago, Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that he expects Butler to return to the Bulls.
