Bulls forward Pau Gasol and his brother Marc, who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, were awarded Spain’s Princess of Asturias prize for his “brilliant record” playing basketball.

The $55,600 award is one of eight Asturias prizes handed out annually by a foundation named for Crown Princess Leonor. Other categories include the arts and scientific research.

This wasn’t the first year the Gasol brothers won the Princess Asturias prize. In 2006, the Gasol brothers won the prize when they led the Spain team to the world title.

Pau Gasol averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds last season, and he is currently on his second year of his three-year, $22 Million contract with the Bulls.

Spain’s Princess of Asturias prize is honored each autumn in the northern city of Oviedo, capital of the Asturias region.
